Description
This exciting one day workshop will provide information about cannabis, the legalization process, its use in treatment of chronic pain, and implications of usage in daily activities, including work.
Health care professionals working with individuals from both a treatment and assessment perspective are invited to join us on March 2, 2018.

9:00 - 10:30 | Medical Cannabis: The Literature. Dr. Lionel Marks de Chabris will review the current literature on medical cannabis including indications in Pain Management, Medicine, Neurology, Psychiatry and Oncology as well as contraindications and important side effects. |

11:30 - 12:30 | Dr. David Teplin, PsyD, C.Psych was instrumental in developing the Canadian Psychological Association’s Position Paper: Recommendations for the Legalization of Cannabis in Canada. He will provide a brief summary of this document and then chair a question and answer/discussion period |

SPEAKERS
Lionel Marks de Chabris, MD is an Ontario physician with a practice focus in Pain Medicine and Addiction Medicine. He graduated from McGill University Medical School in 1988 and was certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada in Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine in 1991. In 2000 he obtained American board certification in Emergency Medicine. Starting in 2006 Dr. Marks de Chabris went on to do further training in Addiction Medicine and then Pain Medicine, sponsored by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Canadian Medical Association. In 2009 he focused his practice in Pain Medicine and Addiction Medicine. Dr. Marks de Chabris is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management and the Canadian Academy of Pain Management. He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine. He is an active Mentor in Addiction Medicine and Pain Medicine for the Ontario College of Family Physicians, a Fellow of the Canadian College of Family Physicians, a Medical Inspector for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, a Certified Independent Medical Examiner (American Board of Independent Medical Examiners), and an Assistant Professor at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. Dr. Marks de Chabris has lectured widely to both lay and professional audiences on the subjects of pain treatment, safe opioid management, and medical cannabis.
Aaron North is co-founder, President and CEO of Vector Medical Corporation. He is an expert in the design and implementation of employee occupational health & wellness programs in the areas of workplace substance abuse, medical cannabis and impairing medications, employee mental health, and general medical fitness-for-duty considerations. Aaron works extensively with employers and unions in the oil and gas, railway, airline, municipal transportation, construction, mining, and healthcare industries. Aaron is certified in project management and is a US Department of Transportation-certified Substance Abuse Professional. Aaron earned his Graduate degree in Public Policy Analysis at the Wurzweiler Graduate School of Social Work, in New York City.
Dr. David Teplin, PsyD, C.Psych is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Richmond Hill, Ontario. He is also an adjunct professor in the Doctor of Clinical Psychology program at Medaille College in Buffalo, New York. He also sits on the Editorial Review Board of several peer-reviewed clinical journals and serves on Professional Advisory Boards for Adult ADHD. He is the Past Chair of the Canadian Psychological Association Section on Addiction Psychology and recently served as Chair of the Canadian Psychological Association Task Force on the Legalization of Cannabis.
