ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Dr. Eva Svoboda
Dr. Eva Svoboda is a co-founding psychologist at Toronto Brain Health. She has significant experience treating individuals with persistent symptoms following concussion and providing rehabilitation to those with moderate to severe brain injury. Dr. Svoboda obtained her Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Toronto, with a focus on neuroscience and neuropsychology. She completed pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training at Baycrest Health Sciences in combination with other rehabilitation and clinic sites in the areas of clinical psychology, neuropsychology and rehabilitation psychology in which she has declared competency. She has held various hospital-based positions including director of a memory rehabilitation program at Baycrest and consultant neuropsychologist to West Park Healthcare Centre. Dr. Svoboda holds academic appointments at the University of Toronto and York University, publishes research on innovative approaches to treatment, and engages in public speaking, consulting and media interviews pertaining to concussion, acquired brain injury and rehabilitation. She is also the co-author of a book on memory intervention.
Dr. Sabrina Lombardi
Dr. Sabrina Lombardi is a co-founding psychologist at Toronto Brain Health with significant experience in rehabilitation and in particular, the assessment and treatment of concussion with persistent symptoms. She obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from York University with declared competency in the areas of Clinical Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology. She went on to complete a clinical postdoctoral fellowship at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute at UHN through her work with the Canadian Concussion Centre (CCC). Dr. Lombardi’s work with the CCC centred primarily on neuropsychological assessment, cognitive rehabilitation and therapeutic intervention of athletes and non-athletes who had sustained multiple concussions. She has held various hospital positions including clinical neuropsychologist at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute as well as consultant neuropsychologist to Bridgepoint Active Healthcare and contract psychologist at West Park Healthcare Centre. She has given numerous invited presentations on the topic of concussion and brain injury at universities, hospitals, conferences and workshops.
Dr. Robert van Reekum
Dr. van Reekum has served as a Neuropysychiatric consultant to the Acquired Brain Injury Program at the Hamilton Health Sciences Centre since completing his training. He was also a staff psychiatrist, and Associate Scientist, at Baycrest Centre for nearly fifteen years. Dr. van Reekum is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, an Associate member of the Institute of Medical Sciences at the University of Toronto, and an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Laval University.
Dr. van Reekum is an author/co-author on over 100 scientific articles and chapters, has edited a number of chapters and sections of important textbooks, has been a reviewer and/or board member for a number of scientific journals, was a contributor to Ontario’s mild Traumatic Brain Injury Practice Guidelines (both editions), has held over two million dollars in research grants, and has supervised a number of post-graduate students.
Dr. van Reekum is not currently actively engaged in research, but continues to write articles for publication particularly related to the field of neuropsychiatry, and in particular related to affective, behavioural, motivational and cognitive changes following Traumatic Brain Injury.
