Matthew Pickard

Matthew Pickard
Ph.D., C. Psych
Like most of my colleagues, I was trained as a scientist-practitioner. Through this training, including my work experience, I continue to develop my skill in delivering therapeutic assessments. The concept of a therapeutic assessment includes using psychological testing to help provide individuals with a greater understanding of themselves and how their present situation is impacting them. This often leads to a collaborative approach to exploring and implementing solutions to their presenting problems. My continued participation in research also helps inform my practice when delivering services to clients, whether by helping me understand what writing style individuals prefer and comprehend the most, to looking at the relationship between emotional intelligence and rumination, and the relationship between rumination and depression. These research findings help my clients learn more about themselves and their patterns of behaviour, thoughts or emotions that could be contributing or maintaining their presenting difficulties.
