I obtained my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Waterloo in 1980 (approved by the American Psychological Association.) After completing a one-year pre-doctoral internship at the Lafayette Hospital, a psychiatric facility in Detroit, Michigan, I assumed the position of Staff Psychologist at Toronto General Hospital for 5 years. While at Toronto General Hospital, I established the first pain management program in a Department of Psychology in Toronto. I was subsequently the Chief Psychologist at Scarborough Grace Hospital for 5 years. I have been in private practice since 1990.
I have been a member of the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology since 1986. Since 2001, I have been a Diplomate in Professional Psychotherapy and a Diplomate in Behavioural Medicine (International Academy of Behavioural Medicine, Counseling and Psychotherapy). I have been a member of the Canadian Academy of Psychologists in Disability Assessment since 1998.
In my positions in general hospitals, my duties have included clinical service, research, teaching to various disciplines including medicine, social work, nursing, occupational therapy and physiotherapy, as well as consultation to other professionals and administrative tasks. I have been an Adjunct Faculty Member of the Graduate Program in Psychology at York University and the University of Windsor.
I have 40 years of experience completing psychological assessments and providing treatment as well as consultation to lawyers, physicians, rehabilitation workers, insurance adjusters, and other health care professionals. I assess and treat patients with a wide variety of emotional, social and/or health-related difficulties referred by physicians, other health care professionals, rehabilitation counsellors, insurance adjusters and lawyers. I have provided psychological treatment to a large number of patients who have experienced sexual and/or physical abuse. An area of specialty within my practice is health psychology, especially the assessment and treatment of patients with chronic pain, emotional problems, and cognitive dysfunction as a result of a personal injury or who are emotionally or cognitively disabled for other reasons. I have been qualified as an expert witness in the Ontario Court of Justice (General Division) and have acted as an expert witness on numerous occasions.
